What to Consider Before Buying an Egg Cooker

As you compare different egg cookers, it’s a good idea to keep the following features in mind to narrow down your options.

Style: There are several types of egg cookers that you can buy. Electric models are freestanding appliances that can boil or poach eggs, but there are also units that cook eggs in the microwave. Or, if you prefer not to have a unitasker, an Instant Pot or air fryer is able to cook eggs, as well as lots of other recipes.

Cooking Options: Some egg cookers can only make hard- or soft-boiled eggs, but others can prepare additional egg styles. You may want to look for a unit that can make poached eggs, scrambled eggs, or even omelets.

Capacity: If you want to cook several eggs at a time, be sure to check the capacity of the egg cooker. Small units can usually fit around four eggs, while larger models may be able to cook up to a dozen at a time.

How Long Should You Cook Hard Boiled Eggs?

If you’re cooking hard-boiled eggs on the stove, I recommend cooking them for 20 minutes. I like to cover the eggs in water and bring the water to a boil, then turn off the heat and cover the pot. Let the steam cook the eggs for 20 minutes, then run the eggs under cold water and peel them.

Can You Cook Eggs in the Microwave?

If you want to make hard-boiled eggs in the microwave, you’ll need a gadget like the Nordic Ware Microwave Egg Boiler, which holds eggs and water to create the perfect cooking environment. There are also microwave egg cookers that allow you to quickly make scrambled or fried eggs, which are useful for making egg sandwiches.

How Do You Cook Eggs in an Air Fryer?

It’s easy to cook eggs in an air fryer. For my Air Fryer Hard Boiled Eggs recipe, I start with cold eggs right out of the fridge. I’ve found that cooking them for 15 minutes at 250 degrees creates a slightly runny yolk, and you can bump it up to 17 or 18 minutes for a more solid hard-boiled egg. Once they’re done, run the eggs under cold water to stop the cooking and make them easy to peel.

How Long Can Cooked Eggs Stay in the Fridge?

Hard-boiled eggs will last in an airtight container in the refrigerator for around one week. I like to peel them before refrigerating so they’re ready to eat.
